Act 2 Scene 3 Quote Analysis (Romeo and Juliet)
“…they stumble that run fast.”
What I believe this means is that ‘he who runs fast will stumble’. This means Friar Lawrence is warning Romeo that he is making a bad decision jumping right in with Juliet. If Romeo was to just slow down Friar Lawrence thinks they would have a better relationship.
Hi Hadley,
I totally agree with you- I think this is a warning from FL. He is telling Romeo that if they move too quickly, something bad will happen to either one or both of them. I tend to think both of them as FL says “they” rather than “he” or “she” as he might if he was thinking of a single person. Instead, the pronoun refers to more than one person.
Nicely done!
Wow nicely written Hadley!
